#MiamiOH #SpringOutreach will be a time when we can contend in John 17 Unity for Revival at MiamiU, Oxford, and the surrounding area. On April 8th 2 student lead bands will worship, pray and evangelism in Memorial Park (Oxford, OH) from 2 to 5:30pm. We are praying for great weather and John 17 unity among those involved. But John 17 unity does not always bring people closer together as we may understand.
When Jesus taught and preformed Miracles by the power of the Holy Spirit it was very divisive. Jesus did not seek to be divisive, and neither should we. But the fear of being divisive should not hinder us from two important points: the Word and the Spirit. Jesus preached the Word and preformed Miracles by the Holy Spirit and this is what got everyone angry.
In John chapter 9 Jesus heals the man born blind. That act of the Holy Spirit was controversial because it was done on the Sabbath. Therefore, there was a division again among the Jews because of these sayings. Then later on He is teaching about Good shepherds that follow the will and voice of God. And that became controversial.
Then Jesus identifies Himself as the Good shepherd and the religious leaders (those that did not receive Jesus and rejected the miracle of healing the blind man) were furious at this teaching and the next verse states:
there was a division again among the Jews because of these sayings. (John 10:19)
They were mad at the Holy Spirit (miracle on the Sabbath) and the Word (teaching of Jesus). When we are truly preaching the Word of God those that are opposed to the Word of God will rise up in opposition. Also when we do the works of the Holy Spirit those that are opposed will rise in opposition. So then what should be do? Should we not preach the word because it is controversial, and should we not do the works of the Spirit because it is offensive. NO!
We must never shrink back from preaching the Word of God. And we must never stop following the gifts and power of the Spirit. Jesus prayed in John 17 that we would preach the word;
….I have given them Your word; and the world has hated them because they are not of the world, just as I am not of the world. (John 17:14)
And He also said that the Power of the Holy Spirit would be “greater” in the works of the disciples (and my friends in China and Africa and give first hand witness to this);
“Most assuredly, I say to you, he who believes in Me, the works that I do he will do also; and greater works than these he will do, because I go to My Father. (John 14:12)
What we should do?
As much as possible work to work with those that call upon the name of Jesus. If we have the right spirit of Jesus and following the leadership of the Holy Spirit we will see God move miraculously; we should look to follow Jesus and the Holy Spirit, not start a fight. This means we have to work hard to fight through offense, and work with those around us as long as we do not compromise the Word of God and the Work of the Holy Spirit.
